Working together towards common goals is more important than ever these days. That’s why I am pleased to give a shout out to Sustainable Stillwater. Announced in 2016, the nonprofit Sustainable Stillwater grew out of a community-wide visioning project led by high school students who wanted to live in a greener community. The organization’s vision is to “Seek to preserve our environment and champion a healthy and resilient community.” Besides completing a plethora of sustainability initiatives, Sustainable Stillwater is promoting the Green Business Directory for the Greater Stillwater Area. The Directory provides socially and environmentally-conscious customers with the names of companies certified as sustainable who have been screened rigorously about their business practices and their impact on the environment. In order to be certified, strict standards must be met. And, in keeping with Sustainable Stillwater’s humble beginnings, students participate in outreach and other activities.
