Stress Busters for Environmental Leaders

BAM! Be Present in the Moment

It’s common to view life as happening to us, leaving us feeling like victims of circumstances. However, our interpretation of events is what leads to stress and suffering. Being present in the current moment means accepting life as it is, without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Focusing on the past leads to negativity, guilt, resentment and bitterness, while focusing on the future leads to worry and anxiety. The present moment is all we have and when we accept it there are no problems only situations As Eckhart Tolle, author of the book, The Power of Now, puts it “Making the present moment the focal point of your life dramatically increases your ability to enjoy what you do and your quality of life.” Mindfulness is the key to being present, by being fully aware of what we are doing in each moment. Time does not offer salvation or freedom in the future, but being present is the path to true freedom, enabling us to be free now.
