Mastering the Moment: Day One of the Challenge!

How did you do on your assignment to identify four or five habitual actions that you undertake without much thought (and often lead to frustration) and challenge yourself to change these patterns?   Did you track your progress by putting one coin per mindless action in your favorite piggybank?

 Well, as promised, here is my daily progress! I had 4 coins in Betsy, the Cash Cow. Why? There were 3 times I forgot to close the cupboard doors and 1 time I didn’t close the refrigerator door. Not bad, but I still need to improve!

 Remember why we are doing this…it is to train ourselves to be more present in the moment…to focus on one thing at a time and to monitor our progress.

 Thich Nhat Hahn, a Buddhist Monk who wrote the book, The Miracle of Mindfulness, stated: “If we are not in control of ourselves, but instead let our impatience or anger interfere, then our work is no longer of value.”

 My esteemed environmental colleagues, in this crucial period, it is paramount that we hone our abilities to stay focused and fully present in our work so that what we do is of value! Let's strive for enhanced scientific precision and greater mindfulness in our intentions and our actions!
