Laughter Really IS the Best Medicine
"An optimist laughs to forget; a pessimist forgets to laugh." Tom Nansbury
When we were young, we laughed over 100 times a day. As adults, it is estimated that number has dropped to 20. Why? Because we are so serious…and, we don’t realize its profound implications on our health, social lives and even our understanding of the world. Laughter brings out more than the best in you, it also releases endorphins, which are natural opiates produced by the nervous system in response to stimuli like pain or stress. The Japanese have a movement called “sacho noie.” It is the “truth of life” or “laughing practice.” Here is the technique, presented by author Mary Morrissey: Start out by saying, “Spirit of Joy dwelling within me, ever present, I call you forth now.” Put your hands on your belly. Throw your head back and forth for about 15 seconds, laughing with the words “ha,ha,ha…” You are bound to feel lighter after this!
