In recent studies, scientists investigating the impact of Botox found that treating frown lines not only smoothed wrinkles but also reduced depression in patients. Research conducted by French physiologist Dr. Israel Weinbaum further revealed that frowning causes the secretion of stress hormones such as cortisol, adrenalin and noradrenaline, which raise blood pressure, weaken the immune system and increase the chances of developing anxiety and depression. Conversely, smiling diminishes the presence of these harmful chemicals and stimulates the production of happiness-inducing endorphins and immune-boosting T cells. Moreover, smiling helps to relax muscles, alleviate pain and expedites the healing process.
