Stress Busters for Environmental Stewards
How to Know Your “Yes” or “No” in an Instant
#When you don’t have a lot of time to deliberate, how can you make the best decision?
Every day, we are faced with numerous decisions that require quick and efficient judgment. Often, we don’t have the luxury of time to decide whether to proceed with a project or not or if we are the best person for the job. However, what if there was a way to instantly know the answer? The simple technique is taught by Dr. Sue Morter, a bioenergetic medicine pioneer, author and chiropractor. It is based on the physical sensations that our body experiences when we respond with a “Yes” or “No” to a choice. While we may have previously taken cues from our bodies, we may not have done so consistently. By learning to recognize the physical sensations associated with a “Yes” and a “No,” we can develop the ability to make informed decisions quickly and effectively.
With practice, this technique can help you determine the right course of action in an instant:
- Start by breathing from your belly in through your nose and out through your mouth 3 times
- Then, focus upon the word, “Yes” and say it as you notice how your chest feels, then move to your shoulders, then your belly and finally, your solar plexus
- You may feel like you are moving forward
- Take 3 more deep belly breaths
- Then, focus upon the word, “No” and say it as you notice how your chest feels, then move to your shoulders, then your belly and finally, your solar plexus
- You may feel like you are resisting or sitting back
- Practice how “Yes” and “No” feel in your body until it becomes an automatic response when a choice faces you
