Stress Busters for Environmental Stewards

How to Keep Fear in Check

Fear is a natural emotion that all humans experience in response to perceived danger or threat. Our “old mammalian brain-“-the paleomammalian-- is responsible for subconscious emotions, such as fear. Fear can be helpful in keeping us safe; however, it can have a significant negative impact on our lives as well. Fear can prevent us from taking risks, trying new things, and pursuing our goals. It can lead to anxiety, stress, and even physical symptoms such as increased heart rate and sweating. In extreme cases, fear can lead to phobias, panic attacks and other debilitating mental health conditions. Understanding and managing our fears is essential for personal growth, happiness, and fulfillment. The easiest way to do minimize fear is by staying in present time and monitoring our thoughts so that we are not feeding fear by worrying about the future or regretting the past.
