Breathing is not merely a method to dispel thoughts and emotions by holding it or increasing its pace; it also serves as a conduit to connect the body and mind, facilitating access to wisdom. When your mind feels scattered, utilize your breath to regain control. Since we always have our breath with us, it can be employed at any time to establish grounding and sharpen focus. One technique is the 4x4 breath practice: inhale deeply from your belly through your nose to the count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 4 and exhale through your mouth to the count of 4. Repeat this process until you feel in control again. Another method, straw breathing, involves inhaling from your belly through your nose, then pursing your lips as if sipping from a straw and exhaling through your mouth. Perform this technique several times until you feel relaxed and like yourself once more.
