Stress Busters for Environmental Stewards

How Our Emotions Trigger Chemical Reactions

Our bodies have about 100,000 chemical reactions every second. We’ve all heard about stress chemicals—when we are stressed, we create more cortisol and adrenaline, which can weaken our immune system.  Stress triggers the body’s fight or flight response, and chronic stress is a cause of many illnesses and diseases.. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) declared stress a “hazard of the workplace” and costs American industry more than $300 billion annually.  When we are happy, though, we produce chemicals—such as serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin and others—and those are good for our health. We will continue to explore happiness in our next blogs. #How are you feeling right now?
