Feeling Scrooged?

Are you a bit anxious about the holidays? Is there someone you will be seeing or a gathering you aren’t looking forward to? In The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle, states “Unease, anxiety, tenson, stress. worry–all forms of fear–are caused by too much future and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past and not enough presence.” How do you stay present and not reflect upon the past when you are anticipating an uncomfortable situation? In Loving What Is, best-selling author and spiritual teacher Byron Katie explains “life experiences don’t cause emotional pain, only resistant thoughts that judge experiences as somehow wrong or unwanted do.”  As I’ve discussed in other blogs, it’s important to be aware of your thoughts. What resistant thoughts are you thinking about the holidays? What if those thoughts weren’t true? How would you feel about the holidays if they weren’t true? Would you feel more freer, more at peace? Would you actually enjoy yourself? Our thoughts are based upon our culture, perceptions, what others have told us, our memories, etc. Most of the time, our thoughts are not true. Before you go to an event you may be nervous about, remember that you can change how you look at the situation. Imagine how you would like it to be and then focus upon that picture. If all went as you picture it, how would you feel? Do your best to imagine yourself in the situation and manifesting those good feelings. Act AS IF it is real. Then, go ahead with your plans. I think you will be amazed at how things work out.
